My teaching philosophy is to be both a mentor and a learner where, as a mentor I would be able to know my students’ learning needs well enough and help them learn by creating a friendly and an engaging environment. As a learner, I find the company of learning community of students challenging enough to motivate me to build my content and pedagogical knowledge.
To achieve my goal I try to develop an environment, engaging and full of active learning. I try to make lectures interesting with audiovisual tools and class participation (through discussions, games and class projects). I believe this can’t be achieved without building a good rapport with the students. I see Lowman’s Two Dimensional Model as a guiding tool and aim at keeping a balance between higher Intellectual Excitement (IE) and Interpersonal Rapport (IR) with the students. As a learner I see students’ feedback and self-directed learning very important in my professional development.
Teaching doesn’t only provide me a platform to contribute and help my students achieve their goals but it is also a good opportunity for continuous improvement of my teaching and research skills.
