World Environment Day Celebrated at Mehran University, Jamshoro
Institute of Environment Engineering and Management (IEEM) in collaboration with U.S-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) celebrated World Environment Day on Monday, in the main auditorium of the University. In prize distribution ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Uqaili, Vice Chancellor MUET said that the environment is basically an attitude of a man to the nature, which affects the whole scenario.
He said that though the man has been given attitude of respect to nature but he still needs to be guided properly to live a life that could be more respectful towards nature. Dr. Uqaili said that by adopting the modern technology with positive attitude could bring the change in the society. In order to achieve the sustainable development, people have to adopt environment friendly behavior and optimistic attitude to nature”, he added. He further said that everyone has to play his or her vital role to solve the problems pertaining to the basic needs of the communities. Before the speech, Dr. Uqaili inaugurated the celebrations of the World Environment Day.
Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, Deputy Director USPCAS-W in his welcome address said that celebrating that day by annually since 1973 aims at to sensitize the people to keep the environment clean and neat. He said that a man was created from soil and water, the key components of the environment, contamination of any of two will affect the human being ultimately. Healthy life is subject to condition of the healthy environment, he added.
The students of different departments of the University participated in the interdepartmental competition of declamation, poster and project exhibition contests on the theme of the day which was Connecting People to Nature. In different contests, 1st positions were awarded to Mr. Abdul Aziz Mahar in project exhibition, Mr. Faiz Abro in declamation contest and Mr. Saqib and Ms. Zunaira in poster competition. Mr. Touqeer Abbasi, Mr. Meer Haider, and others also got positions in the different contests.
Prof. Dr. Tahua Hussain Ali, Pro-Vice Chancellor MUET, Prof. Dr. Khan Muhammad Brohi, the Dean, Prof. Dr. Bakhshal Khan Lashari, Project Director USPCAS-W, presented the winning trophies and shields to the position holders of the different contestants. Murk Group of Drama Theater from Hyderabad presented stage show on the importance of the World Environment Day. The guests also visited the project exhibitions and posters related to the different applications of environment, water, sanitation, energy, agriculture. On this occasion, Dr. Sheeraz Ahmed Memon, Director IEEM presented the vote of thanks.
