World Bank Implementation Support Mission Visits USPCAS-W, Mehran UET
The World Bank Implementation Support Mission for the Sindh Water & Agriculture Transformation (SWAT) Project visited the U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) at Mehran UET, Jamshoro.
The delegation comprised Mr Greg Browder, Global Lead (Water) TTL SWAT, Zelalem Tesfaye (WRMS), Lesley Jeanne Cordero, Program Leader, and Mr Bilal Khalid, Disaster Specialist from the World Bank, along with Mr Ghulam Hyder Qureshi from the PCMU, Government of Sindh, Dr Muhammad Azmat, Hydroinformatics Specialist at NUST, and Mr Umar Kareem from FAO.
The delegation explored USPCAS-W’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, including labs and ongoing research activities. Prof. Dr. Kamran Ansari, Director of USPCAS-W, delivered a comprehensive presentation during an interactive meeting on Sindh’s Hydro-Agro Informatics (HAI) Program, highlighting the project’s objectives, methodology, and overall design approach. Dr. Azmat further showcased the ACWA Portal, a project funded by the FAO headquarters.
During the meeting, the international partners from the Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS), Bangladesh, including Md. Motaleb Hossain Sarker, Mr Tanvir Ahmed, and Mr Gazi Md Riasat Amin, signed an agreement, marking a significant step in international collaboration.
The meeting also included key experts of the HAI program: Prof. Dr Abdul Latif Qureshi, Dr Qazi Suleman, Dr Ghulam Hussain Dars, Dr Tanveed Ahmed, Dr Asmatullah, Dr Muhammad Ali, and Mr Naeem Dal, IT Specialist from USPCAS-W, Mehran UET.
The HAI Program aims to improve Sindh’s water resource management and productivity and support sustainable regional development.
