
USPCAS-W Successfully Hosts International Conference on Water Governance and Climate Resiliency
The U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, proudly organized a two-day International Conference on Water Governance and Climate Resiliency on June 24–25, 2025.
The conference, themed “Enhancing Climate Resilience through Integrated Water Governance, WASH Initiatives, Water Quality Conservation, and Water Circular Economy,” brought together eminent scholars, policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and students to share cutting-edge research and practical insights for addressing critical challenges related to water and climate.
The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Kamran Ansari, Director of USPCAS-W, followed by guest addresses from Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, Vice Chancellor of BBSUTSD, Khairpur Mirs; Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, Vice Chancellor of SAU, Tando Jam; and Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Ahmed, Chief Executive of HANDS Pakistan.
Participants from various sectors, including academia, government departments (Irrigation, Agriculture), non-governmental organizations, and international experts, attended the conference.
The event featured plenary sessions and nine technical sessions covering topics such as water quality monitoring, innovative water governance, wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse, nature-based solutions, GIS and remote sensing applications, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. Researchers and students from across Pakistan presented over 70 research papers and case studies, highlighting practical and policy-driven innovations in sustainable water management.
The conference concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Rizwan Ali Memon, Dean of FOACE at Mehran UET, who appreciated the collective efforts of all participants, organizers, and stakeholders in making the event a collaborative success. The closing remarks reaffirmed USPCAS-W’s commitment to advancing climate-resilient water solutions for Pakistan and the region.
