Use of Plastic should be discouraged for Healthy Environment, Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar
Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, Deputy Director (Academics and Research) at U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W), Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro said that June 5 is marked by the United Nations as World Environment Day, a day set aside since 1974 to promote worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. In his message of the day and on this year’s theme -“Beat Plastic Pollution”, Dr. Mahar said that in Pakistan the use of plastic has increased at the alarming level, pollutes the rivers and sea, poses threat in the climate and ultimately affects the lives of people, animal and plants. “Environment is actually a human attitude towards nature”, Dr. Mahar defines, he added that for the collective benefit and healthy life of human being, the human attitude towards nature should be friendly. Dr. Mahar further said that human was created from soil and water – the key components of the environment while the contamination of any two will ultimately affect the people, animals, flora and fauna. “Healthy environment is prerequisite for the healthy life”, he added. He was of the view that by minimizing the use of plastic could lead for the healthy environment and healthy life. He said that in modern curricula of different disciplines of engineering, science and even of the humanities are being reformed according to the environment needs of today’s life. He further said that the MS/PhD Scholars of USPCAS-W MUET were being taught for healthy environmental practices in their professional and personal lives.
