US Consul General Karachi Grace W. Shelton visits USPCAS-W, Mehran UET Jamshoro
Ms. Grace W. Shelton, US Consul General Karachi said that U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W), is producing next generation leaders who will look after the sustainability issues and challenges faced by Pakistan in water sector. She said while interacting with exchange students and faculty of USPCAS-W who recently returned by spending one semester at University of Utah (UU) at USA.
She said that U.S.-Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies (USPCAS) is one of its kind and prominent U.S Higher Education programs in Pakistan, which will pave the way for applied research corridor in the country. She had wonderful interactive session with the exchange students and faculty in which the exchange experiences shared by them.
Dr. Mohammad Aslam Uqaili, Vice Chancellor Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) welcomed the guests of US Consulate and said that USPCAS-W is a state-of-the-art and modern applied research center in water sector of Pakistan which is established with generous support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Dr. Uqaili said that MUET is first Public Sector University, adopted the Gender Equity Policy after approval of concerned authorities, in this connection, a baby day care center, women resource center and other facilities for women employees and girls students were established in MUET.
He further said that USPCAS-W is encouraging and empowering women scientists and researchers to actively participate in applied research to solve Pakistan’s contemporary problems. On this occasion, Dr. Mohammad Aslam Chaudhry, Chief of Party USPCAS-W, UU briefed the delegation regarding the exchange selection criteria of the students. Dr. Bakhshal Lashari, Project Director of USPCAS-W presented vote of thanks and also briefed the US delegation regarding activities and achievements of the Center.
USAID Senior Policy Advisor Dr. Randy Hatfield, Agreement Officer’s Representative Hafeez Samo and other officials of US Consulate and USAID participated in the event. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor MUET Dr. Uqaili presented the traditional gifts and souvenirs to the guests. Later on, Consul General Ms. Shelton also visited the under construction building of USPCAS-W.
