Seminar and panel discussion on “Manchar from Flourishing life to Environmental Disaster”
Today, US.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water, Mehran UET, Jamshoro and Progressive Writers Association Hyderabad organised a Seminar and panel discussion on “Manchar from Flourishing life to Environmental Disaster”.
A panel of experts comprised Prof. Dr Rasool Bux Mahar, Director USPCAS-W, Mr Manzoor Thaheem, PWA, Prof. Dr Altaf Ali Siyal, SAU, Prof. Dr Kamran Ansari Co-Director USPCAS-W, Mrs Uzma Imran, Assistant Professor and moderated by Chief Guest Mr Wusatullah Khan, Journalist Dawn News.
Dr Mahar greeted all the guests in the opening remarks and appreciated the Chief Guest of the Panel Discussion, Mr Wusatullah Khan, to moderate such an important topic. The priority and funds are given for the buildings and not towards the solution, said Mr Wasatullah. He said many countries do not have lakes, rivers and sea, and Pakistan is prosperous but lacks the policy and management.
Dr Mahar discussed the Research and Studies conducted by the Centre on Manchar Lake and SD6 Goals. The bad Quality of Seawater is because of domestic wastewater, which contains organic matter, said Dr Mahar. The guest of honour Mr Thaheem introduced Novel Manchar and presented the documentary ‘Alooda Pani’ based on the Novel. Mrs Uzma Imran gave a detailed presentation on Water Quality Issues and remedies (Manchar Lake). We need to think about the Manchar Lake; around 70% of water drains from RBOD, and if we close water flowing in the Manchar, it will dry, affecting the environmental, ecological and economic life of Manchar said, Dr Altaf.
The panel discussed the issues and problems of Manchar Lake. The technical panel discussion was ended with the Question Answer. In the end, Dr Mahar decorated the guests with Ajrak.
