Poster Competition on Hydro-informatics held at USPCASW Mehran UET, Jamshoro
Poster competition on “Hydro-informatics: Data, Management and Analysis” among the students of U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) Jamshoro in partnering with the University of Utah, United States of America (USA) held today. There were 10 groups consisting of 3 to 4 students in each group participated in the competition.
The participants exhibit the posters and gave presentations which were based on research based latest information of water issues of Pakistan. The students presented their posters on various topics of water related topics including, “Water Demand and Supply Analysis”, “Time Series Analysis of Kotri Barrage”, “Hydrology of Upper Indus Basin”, “Hydromatic Conditions of Hyderabad”, “Effect of Urban Sprawl”, “Land water Changes in Peshawar: Analysis through GIS Techniques” , “An Assessment of Water Distribution Network in MUET, Jamshoro”, “Precipitation Analysis in Pakistan (2008-15)”, “Hydrologic Information System Network for all Barrages” etc.
The participants of the poster competition were of the view that through Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques, modern scientific equipment and software, the existing water information of the country could be updated accordingly, which will pave the way for the sustainable solutions to the water challenges of Pakistan.
Project Director USPCAS-W Dr. Bakhshal Khan Lashari, Dr. Sajjad Ahmad, Technical Advisor to USPCAS-W from University of Nevada, Las Vegas (NLV), USA, Dr. Haroon Stephen, Assistant Professor of NLV, USA, Director Administration USPCAS-W Dr. Rafique Ahmed Chandio, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist MuhamamdShahidPanhwar, Prof. Dr. Abdul Khalique Ansari, Dr. Asmat-Ullah,Superintendent Engineer Irrigation Department ZarifIqbalKhero, and other faculty members and officials of USPCAS-W visited the show. They appreciated the efforts of the students, the event coordinator Mr. Waqas Ahmed Pathan, Assistant Professor, academic program coordinator Mr. Muhamamd Ali Nizamani and others for organizing the poster competition. After the poster competition, Dr. Haroon Stephen, Director GIS from NLV, USA, conducted the session in the graduate seminar on “Urban Climate Research: Application of Remote Sensing and GIS”.
In graduate seminar, Dr. Stephen gave presentation on the topic and shared illustrated information on urban development, flood problem, urban heat island intensity mapping of the Las Vegas city of USA. USPCAS-W Faculty, MS/PhD Students, Lab Lecturers and other officials participated in the graduate seminar and took part in question and answer session. The seminar was followed by the training on GRACE and MATLAB GIS tutorials.
