Participation in 1st Sindh Water Expo at Mirpurkhas
The group consisting of 50 USPCAS-W students participated in 1st Sindh Water Expo at Mirpurkhas jointly organized by Research Development Foundation (RDF), Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tadojam, UPCAS-W Mehran University Engineering and Technology (MUET), Sindh Irrigation Drainage Authority (SIDA), Mirpurkhas District administration and Laar Humanitarian Development Programme (LHDP) in collaboration with Trocair Pakistan at Sindh Horticulture Research Institute Mirpurkhas. On this occasion, the exhibition was also organized at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Mango Exhibition Hall Horticulture Research Institute Mirpurkhas, Sindh, where the hundreds of stalls were set up by the different organization and institutes. USPCAS-W MUET also set up the stall to display and distribute the promotional and printing material for outreaching the concerned stakeholders.
PPP Member National Assembly (MNA) Mir Munawar Ali Khan Talpur with organizers inaugurated the mega event and visited different stalls and appreciated the valuable products manufacturers and expressed his deep interest on the display of different companies and institutions. Mr. Talpur also visited USPCAS-W MUET stall and praised the efforts of the Center for seeking sustainable solutions of water issues of Pakistan based on the applied research. During his visit to the booth, he has presented the Souvenirs of the MUET Water Center.
Speaking in the ceremony, MNA Talpur mentioned about the irrigation canals which had become dumping sites for receiving industrial and municipal waste, which he proposed to restore for fresh water for agriculture. He expressed the hope that this Water Expo may open the avenue for farmers to develop linkages with financial institutions for acquiring a loan.
The expo was aimed at by bringing together academia, industry, traders, civil society, government departments and farmers at one place to provide comprehensive insight into water use. This conference will share best practices, the latest and environment-friendly technological innovations, farmer perspectives and reforms in Sindh. It also provided an opportunity to farmers, students and water practitioners to discuss their issues with experts, companies, service providers and the researchers to learn from and find out safe and sustainable solutions.
Several hundreds of people including water experts, heads of academic institutes, senior executives of various banks as well as private companies dealing in water supplies and agricultural inputs, besides agriculturalists and peasants visited the expo.
Dr. Mohammad Rizwan, Assistant Professor USPCAS-W MUET, Mr. Sahib Khan Bhand, the CMO Expert and Mr. Faizan Memon facilitated the students during their visit to the expo.
