One-Third Alumni from the World`s Largest U.S Alumni Network are in Sindh”, said by Cameron Thomas-Shah, the Cultural Attache` US Consulate General Karachi
Jason Green the Public Affairs Officer and Cameron Thomas-Shah the Cultural Attaché of the U.S Consulate Karachi visited Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro and talked about “Exchange and Education Opportunities in USA” in an interactive session with the students of U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water, here on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.
Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali Pro-Vice Chancellor Mehran University welcomed the delegation and thanked for conduct of “an interactive session on the topic for which our youth is always feeling excited,” he expressed. Dr. Hussain also thanked USAID for their initiative in facilitating workshops and mentorship sessions so that maximum number of students get benefit from such opportunities.
Jason Green, the Public Affairs Officer and Cameron Thomas-Shah, the Cultural Attaché at the U.S Consulate Karachi highlighted the benefits of learning under U.S fellowship programs. He further said that it is not just about the education but promoting cultural exchange is also an intergral part of these programs. He also expressed interest in the establishment of USEFP Desk in Mehran University Central Library to provide facilitation throughout the calendar year. Jason Green said that along with technical criteria, we do priorities the applications according to urban-rural disparities, and do provide equal opportunities to women and persons with different disabilities. While answering to a question, the Cultural Attache` shared that “Pakistan U.S Alumni Network (PUAN) is the largest alumni network of the world with over 29000 Pakistanis whereas one third alumni of this network are in Sindh,” he added.
Sarah Asghar Cultural Affairs Assistant in exchange programs presented salient features from the major programs includes; Fulbright Scholarship, Humphrey Scholarship, Community Solution Program, SUSI, TechWomen Exchange Program and Virtual Mission Speaker Program. She emphasized students to put serious effort in writing personal statement while applying for scholarships. “Make sure you have written good elevator pitch as well as you must know what is unqiue about you, and must write about the challenging situation that you did overcome,” she further elaborated.
Prof. Dr. Bakhshal Khan Lashari Project Director USPCASW, Deans, Directors, Professors, Principal Staff, U.S scholarship aspirants of Mehran University actively participated in the interactive session as well as asked questions for further elaboration about relevant programs.
Earlier, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Uqaili Vice Chancellor Mehran University welcomed the delegation at his office and discussed on the salient features of the talk. The information flyers and booklets about various student exchange programs, fellowships and scholarships were distributed among the participants.
