MUET Vice Chancellor will inaugurate GIS Lab and Three-Day Training Workshop on “Geo-informatics” at USPCASW
U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUE), Jamshoro in collaboration with United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) is going to organize a three-day training workshop on “Geo-informatics” for young faculty and postgraduate students for their capacity building in the relevant field throughout the province, will be held on April5-7, 2016 in the “GIS Lab” of USPCAS-W, MUET Jamshoro. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Uqaili, Vice Chancellor will inaugurate the newly established Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory and the workshop on Tuesday, April 05, 2016, at MUET Jamshoro. Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, training focal person informed that 20 working stations have been installed in the newly established GIS Laboratory in USPCAS-W – a USAID funded project of MUET water research center. Dr. Siyal said that the laboratory will not only impart quality education in GIS, Satellites and Remote Sensing to the students but will also help for research irrigation system, agricultural development, Indus Delta, Forests and other the natural resources of Pakistan. He said in this workshop, the participants will be trained specifically for using satellite data for the better management of water and agricultural resources. “This workshop will be repeated thrice a year”, Dr. Siyal added. He said that female participants are highly encouraged to apply in this training, however, in subsequent workshops applications will be invited from other provinces to benefit the relevant faculty and students throughout the country equally. He further said there is no fee for participation in this workshop and the nomination of the relevant participants from higher education institutions have already been invited. Apart from MUET professors, Dr. Sajjad Ahmed from University of Nevada Las Vegas, USA will be the trainer in the workshop.
