Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Standing Committee Academia-Industry Collaboration on Water Resources Meeting Brief
Academia-Industry Collaboration on Water Resources was initiated three years ago by the center USPCAS-W, MUET, and to make it efficient and interactive, the center has joined FPCCI Standing Committee on “Academia-Industry Collaboration on Water Resources”, in which Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar is acting as convener of the committee for the year 2019, whereas Dr. Zubir Ahmed, Dr. Tanveer Ahmed, and Dr. Naveed Ahmed are the formal members. In brief, the Standing Committee on Academia-Industry collaboration will serve as an interactive and collaborative arrangement between scientists/researchers from academia and business entities for proposing technology-led solutions to overcome challenges of water scarcity, quality, access, and management. In this regard, academia will serve as the main source of new knowledge, innovative thinking and skill development, while the business will assume the responsibility of translating this knowledge into commercial application. First meeting of the year 2019 was held in the month of May, in which from the center Dr. Tanveer Ahmed, Mr. Barkatullah and Mr. Bahadur Ali (Two Research Assistants in Center funded Research Projects) have participated and joined the discussion and briefed about the progress on some of the joint work with Textile, Sugar and Fish Industries. The Committee Chairman Mr. Ismail Sattar, Vice Chairman Mr. Waseem Vohra, Deputy Convener Ms. Ainy Zehra and other participants from industry and consulting firms were briefed by Dr. Tanveer Ahmed and Mr. Barkatullah about on rehabilitation of textile industry wastewater treatment plant for efficient re-use and further pilot study on treatment and reuse of fish industry wastewater. In addition, the participants were briefed about the applied research activities taken at the center. The committee appreciated the efforts being done by the center towards need-based solution of industry and applied research on water. For the next committee meeting, it was decided that the key findings and outcomes of the industrial project will be presented by the center in front of various stakeholders and industry managers, for targeted improvement in industrial water management and consultation to propagate the outcomes.
