Empowering Future Environmental Scientists with Cutting-Edge Tools
Mr. Asad Abid Khahro, MS Scholar (IWRM), USPCAS-W, conducted an insightful training session on the FAO WaPOR portal at USPCAS-W, Mehran UET Jamshoro for BS Environmental Science students. Organized as part of Dr. Arjumand Zaidi’s Environmental Informatics course, the session introduced students to WaPOR’s powerful features for water and agricultural management.
Students explored WaPOR’s spatial and temporal resolutions, global coverage, and versions. Detailed evapotranspiration components: Evaporation (E), Transpiration (T), and Interception (I), focusing on Actual Evapotranspiration and Interception (ETIa). Hands-on training on integrating local data and downloading datasets for analysis. Discussed WaPOR’s role in enhancing food security and water conservation, with applications in monitoring agricultural water use and optimizing irrigation in Sindh’s barrage system.
Mr. Asad Abid discussed the application of WaPOR in monitoring agricultural water use and improving irrigation management across Sindh’s irrigation system. The session also covered the Sindh barrage system and its significance for irrigation management.
The session underscored the importance of data-driven solutions for sustainable irrigation management, equipping students with practical skills to address real-world environmental challenges.
