Dr. Tahir Rafique, Senior Scientific Officer, Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) conducted a graduate seminar on Investigation and Mitigation of Ground Water Quality Issues in Thar Desert of Sindh Province, Pakistan. The seminar was participated by the faculty and students of USPCAS-W, MUET Jamshoro.
The significant contribution of Dr. Tahir Rafique is in the investigations of groundwater quality and mitigation of fluoride fluorosis problems in the areas of Thar Desert of Sindh Province. He is an active scientist in the fields of Hydro-geochemistry and Water Treatment. He designed a good number of Reverse Osmosis, Ultra Filtration, Deionization and Laboratory Water Purification, water treatment plants for commercial, community and industrial uses.
Dr. Rafique got his 12 research papers published in the International journals of high impact factors with good citation to cover the findings of these research work and supervising four M.Phil. /Ph.D. scholars. He was conferred Research Productivity Award 2011 by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST).
His one of the remarkable contributions is the preparation of regional risk maps on distribution of various contaminants in the groundwater of Thar Desert for water supply planners, local government bodies of the districts, health and planning departments of Government of Sindh.
Dr. Rafique developed a low-cost De-fluoridation Technology Plant for removal of fluoride, nitrate, arsenic and microbiological contamination in the groundwater of Thar Desert under his PSF funded project which is one of his very unique achievements.
