Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Margaret Adamson visited USPCAS-W at Mehran University Jamshoro
Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Margaret Adamson visited U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) at Mehran University Jamshoro and had meeting with USPCAS-W and MUET officials at vice chancellor secretariat today. In meeting, she said that she is very much delighted that academia and researcher are working on water sector of Pakistan and dedicated water research center is established in MUET. She said that Australia is very much committed to have academic collaboration on water sector of this region and have a future joint ventures on water related applied research. The high commissioner said that there were six Australian universities has signed partnership documents with Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan for academic collaboration by providing scholarships and capacity building of faculty and students of public sector universities of the country.
She said that Australia is very much interested to extend academic collaboration for Pakistan by building partnership among the universities of the both countries. She said that by understanding human capital of the country, Australia always supports for educational and economic development of Pakistan. Ms. Adamson said scope of USPCAS-W a water research center of MUET can be extended up to the regional level as water is shared commodity among many nations in the world. She appreciated the efforts of MUET for its role and ranking for imparting quality education and research across the country. She mentioned that Australia also supports some of schools of Pakistan by providing technical and academic support. The high commissioner also said that there are many sectors where Australia and Pakistan can work together for academic excellence, exchange programs, curricula reforms, water security and water governance.
On behalf of Vice Chancellor MUET, Dr. Ghous Bux Khaskheli- acting vice chancellor while briefing to Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan said that MUET in HEC ranking of 2015, stands on number second in public sector engineering universities of the country and also MUET is engaged in academic research to bridge the social and capital gap. Dr. Kamran Ansari- Deputy Director U.S-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) while briefing the high commissioner said this water research center is launched in MUET by cooperative agreement among Government of Pakistan and United States Government through HEC Pakistan with the assistance of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) whereas the University of Utah of United States technically helps to flourish the center. Dr. Ansari further briefed her for the vision, goals and achievements of the center. Registrar MUET Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali presented traditional gifts and souvenirs to Her Excellency Margaret Adamson and other Australian guests accompanied her. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Chaudhary briefed the highe commissioner for the technical support to the center provided by the University of Utah, USA, and he also presented vote of thanks. Director Administration USPCAS-W Dr. Rafique A. Chandio, Technical Advisor Dr. Sajjad Ahmed, faculty and other officials of the center and MUET attended the meeting.
