
USPCAS-W Scholar Showcases Research at 3rd WAPDA Conference on AI for Water Management
The National Water Center (USPCAS-W) Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) takes pride in its continued contributions to cutting-edge research in water resource management. At the 3rd WAPDA Conference on the Application of Artificial Intelligence for Water Resources Planning & Management, held on February 27, 2025, at WAPDA House, Lahore, MUET’s research excellence was again in the spotlight.
The prestigious event brought together leading scholars, researchers, and students from top universities across Pakistan, including NUST, GIKI, FAST, UET Lahore, LUMS, COMSATS, UET Taxila, Lahore College for Women University, Punjab University, QUEST Nawabshah, and Mehran UET Jamshoro. Out of 33 research papers submitted nationwide, only eight were selected for presentation, underscoring the event’s competitive and high-caliber nature.
Among the distinguished researchers was Mr. Areeb Ul Haq, a PhD Scholar at the U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W), MUET. His research, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Abdul Latif Qureshi and Dr Arjumand Zehra Zaidi, is part of the LCF-HEC funded project titled: “Metering the Aquifer Using Smart Monitoring and Data-Driven Approach for Developing an Adaptive Groundwater Management Strategy in Balochistan.”

This achievement showcases MUET’s AI-driven water resource management leadership and reflects its commitment to addressing critical water challenges through innovative, data-driven solutions. As a token of appreciation, WAPDA presented a commemorative souvenir to Mr. Areeb Ul Haq and MUET Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Taha Hussain Ali to recognize the university’s active participation in the event. Mr. Areeb Ul Haq and his supervisors, Prof. Dr. Abdul Latif Qureshi and Dr. Arjumand Zehra Zaidi, had the honor of presenting the souvenir to the Vice Chancellor in his office at MUET, Jamshoro.
