Mr. Conrad Tribble, the Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General Karachi, visited the U.S.- Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W), Mehran University of Engineering & Technology. Accompanied by Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali, Vice Chancellor of MUET, and Prof. Dr Kamran Jan Ansari, Director of USPCAS-W, along with esteemed Deans and faculty members, the Consul General took a comprehensive tour of our state-of-the-art infrastructure.
During his visit, Mr. Tribble engaged in an interactive session with our talented students, exploring ongoing research and activities within our labs. He was deeply impressed by the groundbreaking research conducted at USPCAS-W and commended the faculty for their dedication to sustainable solutions and innovation.
He said that the water issue in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh, needs attention. Further, he added that he felt immense pleasure seeing the National Water Center, USPCAS-W, where the research and teaching process is conducted peacefully and innovatively. He said that efforts would be taken to provide study opportunities to the students studying in the National Water Center under the education exchange program in the best American Universities.
Furthermore, Dr. Ansari delivered a presentation detailing the journey of USPCAS-W from its inception to its current status as a sustained National Center, even after the initial funding period ended. He emphasized the diverse research portfolio of the Center and highlighted partnerships with various funding agencies. Dr Ansari also underscored USPCAS-W’s role in providing research consultancy and expert support to organizations such as NDMA, World Bank, USAID, and SIDA, as well as government bodies in Balochistan and Sindh and carrying out many studies and research for policy and decision-makers.
The visit was an excellent opportunity to showcase the impactful work at USPCAS-W and strengthen collaborations between academia, government, and international partners. The National Water Center is proud to continue leading water research, innovation, and policy development.
