17 USPCAS-W MUET Students Depart for the USA
The second cohort of second batch consisting of seventeen (17) MS and Ph.D. Scholars of U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro departed to the United States on Wednesday morning on their one-semester exchange visit. Before their departure, Dr. Bakhshal Lashari had conducted a consultative meeting with the departing students at Conference Room of the Center on Tuesday. In the meeting, Dr. Lashari said that the exchange visit would be very much beneficial for the students for their research skills. He noted that USPCAS-W was established in the generous support by the American People through the United States Agency International Development (USAID). He said that exchange visit is one of the prominent features of the USPCASW – the MUET Water Center, which is also fully funded by USAID. Dr. Lashari further suggested the scholars involve themselves in academic, research, co-curricular and cultural activities during their stay at the University of Utah and the Colorado State University of USA. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Chaudhry, the research professor and Chief of Party at USPCAS-W from the University of Utah USA also attended the meeting and said that the exchange students would be facilitated and supported for their respective fields through the mentoring by the Professors of the host universities. He further said that apart from the formal course, the exchange program also serves as the great opportunity for networking with other students from different parts of the world. He emphasized on the leaving students to have interaction with other international students during their stay in the USA.
During their four-month exchange visit, the students would attend specific courses and work on their research projects in co-supervision of their respective professors. Among seventeen departing scholars, seven are female, and four are Ph.D. Scholars went on the exchange visit. The MS scholars namely: Nageena Makhdoom, Nabeel Ali Khan, Nadir Ali will spend their stay at Colorado State Universities whereas, Jassica Lawrence, Qandeel Khan, Raima Mahmood, Vengus Panhwar, Doulat Ram, Imran Khan, Kanwar Malhi, Muhammad Azeem, Ubaid Ur Rehman Memon, Vipin Kumar Oad and Ph.D. Scholars Anila Memon, Ziauddin Abro, Nabi Bux Bhatti, Salahuddin Panhwar will spend their exchange stay at University of Utah. The University of Utah is the partner university provides technical assistance for advancing the development and sustainability of the Center. Before this cohort, more than 40 students and 13 faculty members have availed the exchange scholarship opportunity so far.
