Visit of the U.S. Consul General to the U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology
The U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W), Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET), warmly welcomed Mr. Scott Urbom, Consul General, United States Consulate General Karachi, along with his team: Mr. Tyler Walker (Economic Officer), Ms. Reva Gupta (Public Diplomacy Officer), Mr. Saif Jiskani (Information Specialist, Public Diplomacy) from the U.S. Consulate Karachi, and Mr. Hafeez Samo (Project Management Specialist, USAID Pakistan).
The delegation was received by Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali (Vice-Chancellor, MUET), Prof. Dr. Aneel Kumar (Pro-Vice Chancellor, MUET), and Prof. Dr. Kamran Ansari (Director, USPCAS-W). The delegation toured the advanced laboratories and engaged in an interactive session with students.
Prof Dr Tauha Hussain Ali underscored the transformative support provided by USAID in establishing USPCAS-W as a center of excellence dedicated to training numerous graduates and addressing Pakistan’s water challenges with practical solutions. He further articulated the significance of ongoing collaboration, suggesting the potential for the Center to become a satellite hub.
Professor Dr. Kamran Ansari delivered a comprehensive presentation detailing the Center’s evolution during and after the USAID funding period, highlighting its sustainable initiatives post-2019, thematic research focuses, alumni achievements, ongoing projects, and partnerships with national and international entities. He also emphasised the Center’s commercial laboratory services and available scholarship opportunities.
Mr. Scott Urbom commended the exceptional facilities, sustainability initiatives, and impactful research of the Center, remarking that USPCAS-W is “producing the next generation of water leaders.” He also participated in a question-and-answer session with faculty members.
The visit, attended by faculty and officials, represents another significant milestone in the journey of USPCAS-W towards fostering international collaboration and innovation.
