MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MoU) between World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) & Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro. This MoU is to create and maintain an amicable working relationship between WWF-Pakistan and MUET. Signed by Prof. Dr. Khan Mohammad Brohi, Dean Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering MUET, Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, Director PCAS-W MUET and Tahir Rasheed, Regional Director of WWF- Pakistan. MoU Signing Ceremony Held at Centre for Advanced Studies in Water-MUET Jamshoro. This MoU assures both parties’ cooperation for the sharing of information and opportunities to allow them to contribute to each others’ initiatives and work. Moreover, the MoU will enable WWF-Pakistan and MUET to lead the issues pertaining to expertise in their respective niches. Further, the purpose of the MoU is to synergize energies and prevent the duplication of efforts. Roles and Responsibilities of the Parties.
Role of WWF-Pakistan:
WWF-Pakistan, within its territorial jurisdiction, agrees to Extend collaboration opportunities for the conservation of endangered /threatened species in terrestrials and marine ecosystems of Sindh. Collaborate with MUET in initiatives regarding policy level advocacy in biodiversity conservation, natural resource management and the possibility to implement studies conducted for ensuring environmental flows across the province. Extend its GIS services to map fieldwork and analysis should a working arrangement arise between the two parties. Collaborate with MUET in a series of studies/analyses on environmental impacts associated with deforestation, urbanization, global and climate change etc. To extend cooperation with MUET to harness opportunities emanating out of CPEC and explore donor/ funding opportunities in the agreed-upon areas. Offer training sessions/ capacity-building workshops for MUET Faculty and Students on mutually agreed thematic areas.
Role of the MUET:
MUET, within its territorial jurisdiction, agrees to Collaborate with WWF-Pakistan to leverage support from across different academic departments and research centres at MUET in research projects of mutual interest, including but not limited to Textiles, information technology, environment, climate change adaptation & mitigation, and biodiversity assessment utilizing molecular methods. Offer training sessions/ capacity-building workshops for WWF-Pakistan staff on mutually agreed thematic areas. Develop joint research projects in collaboration with WWF-Pakistan and with the participation of selected researchers from both institutions. Collaborate on upcoming research, joint policy papers for dissemination to planners, policymakers in Textiles, IT, NRM etc. Work with WWF-Pakistan’s Communications, Corporate Partnership and Fundraising Departments for developing communication material and for fundraising initiatives. Provide support on any other research agenda of mutual interest to both parties—financial Obligations. There will be no financial obligations between the two parties under this MoU. This Memorandum of Understanding is based on mutual consent and agreement of co-operation. However, in future, if any research or project opportunities may arise, WWF-Pakistan and MUET can mutually deliver the services bearing any necessary financial obligations attached to it, partner for projects, or jointly submit the proposals to the national and international donors.6. Duration and Validity of MoU, This MoU is valid until 31st May 2026. This duration may be amended by mutual consent of both the Parties in writing and is extendable, based on successful completion and achievement of targets.
