Linkages between Engineering Research and Entrepreneurship

Dr. Shahid Qureshi, Program Director Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi said that Entrepreneurship is mind set rather than resources and opportunities, this he said while delivering lecture in one of the graduate seminars on “Linkages between Engineering, Research and Entrepreneurship” at U.S.-Paksitan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W), Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro. He said that for entrepreneur, passion of work is an important factor while the academic qualification and degrees also matters. Dr. Qureshi said that if one thinks for doing big and great things he or she could not be entrepreneur, however, entrepreneurship works better by starting small business at the community level then expand it to the global. Dr. Qureshi maintains that entrepreneurship is not about only money but it is also a global service for the society at large. On this occasion, entrepreneur Mr. Ghulam Mustafa and Dr. Rizwan Ahmed of NED University shared their experiences of entrepreneurship. In seminar students of USPCAS-W also shared their experiences and participated in question and answer session. Project Director Dr. Bakshal Khan Lashari welcomed the participants and guests on this occasion and said that the water research center is trying its best to achieve its strategic goals through partnering with University of Utah, USA. He further said that United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is fully supporting to this center and the Vice Chancellor MUET Dr. Mohammad Aslam Uqaili encourages the management of USPCAS-W for extending the scope of this center at regional and global level.  Faculty and students of USPCAS-W students participated in the graduate seminar. NED University Karachi, ISRA University Hyderabad were also among the participants.

The seminar was followed by the meeting of experts to discuss the way forward to strengthen Technology Venture Commercialization in universities. Participants from Pakistani universities and US universities shared their best practices in this connection.
