5-Day Intensive Course on Designing of Drinking Water Distribution System

This event has expired

Overview:
This intensive course is designed to upgrade the skills and competency of personnel involved in the designing and operation of water distribution systems.

Goal and contents:

The ultimate goal of the course is to enable water professionals to use updated knowledge in the design of drinking water distribution networks (pipes, branched and looped water pipe networks). The participants will be able to calculate energy to add or remove from a pressurized water system and examination of centrifugal pumps and their performance characteristics. Fundamental knowledge of drinking water quality, demand calculations, fluid properties of water, and mass/energy in pressurized water pipes will be refreshed and updated.

Course Learning Outcome:

The overall purpose of this course is to design and/or analyze a water distribution system and introduce fluid properties and mechanics of water. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to: Anal y ze the properties of water as an incompressible fluid Determine demand used for a water distribution system.

  • Apply continuity laws of mass/energy in pressurized water pipes.
  • Employ design criteria used in designing drinking water pipes.
  • Apply the fluid properties of water.
  • Design branched and looped water pipe networks.
  • Understand machines to add energy to or remove energy from a pressurized water system, and.
  • Examine centrifugal pumps and their performance characteristics.

Who MUST attend:

This course will be useful for water professionals involved in designing water distribution systems, water distribution system operators, or engaged in disciplines of environmental engineering, water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH). The course will provide a unique chance for professionals to understand, comprehend, practice different aspects of a water distribution system.

Duration and mode of delivery:

The course duration will be five (5). The prime method of delivery will be lecturing and will include a water distribution system design project, laboratory demonstration, and water quality testing. Site visits are also expected to a water pumping station. This interactive course will be instructed by prominent national and international experts.

Method of Assessment:

The method of assessment will be quizzes and at the end of a final exam. The attendees will have to achieve a 70% grade in the quizzes and exams.
